RCMP in North Cowichan/Duncan say 3 male youths have been arrested for assault in relation to a fight between a group of Cowichan Secondary school students Monday. Charges against a 4th youth are also being considered.
The incident was filmed and posted to social media. It showed a fight between 2 boys that ended with a First Nations student falling to the ground and covering his head as he is surrounded by 4 teens who punch and kick him. The incident raised concerns over racism.
Meantime a posting on the school Facebook site shows a First Nations and Caucasian teen with the caption "It's Over!", and stating the pair are rugby teammates who have worked everything out, and declares it was never about racism.
The conditions placed on the teens are to abstain from contact with the victim and each other, and to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.
