Local media have taken a first-hand look at a new supervised consumption site on Pandora Avenue.
The Supervised Consumption Centre, which opens Monday, will allow people to safely use drugs while offering on-site supports and services and referrals.
Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Judy Darcy says supervised consumption sites save lives.
"The objective of the safe consumption services and the response to the overdose is to save lives and connect people to treatment and recovery as soon as possible and to provide social supports so that there can be a life worth living, but you have to be alive to in order to get on that pathway to hope."
The Supervised Consumption Service at 941 Pandora Avenue has ten consumption booths, a waiting and reception area, counselling space and a medication room.
