Colourful floats, marching bands and clowns rolled down Douglas Street this morning for The 119th Island Farms Victoria Day Parade.
Crowds lined the street to get the best view of the entertainment. Those who organized it, Greater Victoria Festival Society say this year's celebration was scaled down a bit at the public's request.
A group of high school students from Kent Washington that come to the Victoria Day parade each year faced some travel restrictions due to the new Trump administration. The members of the school jazz band had their plans skuttled at the last minute, but some managed to get across the border with the help of one of the community members.
Jodi Mecham brought the kids to Victoria herself after the local school board decided not to take the chance that some of their students are undocumented citizens.
"Our kids were devastated, and they were talking about coming up on their own, a small group of them. So, my husband and I decided that we would legally help them to come up here."
Mecham says they got a local business to sponsor the group so they group could attend.
They carried the banner: "Blown Out of Proportion".
