"Spirit of 150 Victoria - First Night" is being staged tomorrow night with close to a quarter million in funding from Canadian Heritage's Canada 150 Fund. Canada's cross-country bash for 19 cities across the country goes saturday night. Victoria's Inner Harbour will be the scene for part of Canada turning 150 years old, the catch? The countdown starts at 9 o'clock followed by fireworks. Event Chair Alan Lowe says "the celebration," is designed to go off simultaneously from coast to coast."
Victoria was chosen because it's a capital city. The show starts goes at the inner harbour. Organizers are shooting for Canada Day in the winter minus alcohol. It's an alcohol free, family oriented event. Police are setting up temporary cameras to monitor the inner harbour for the night. A detailed schedule of events and performer bios can be viewed at Spirit150Victoria.ca.
