Hikers and cyclists will soon have access to a new 13-kilometer trail linking the Humpback Reservoir with the Malahat.
Beginning in July, the Sooke Hills Wilderness Trail will be open to the public through an area previously closed off to the public.
Mike Hicks, chair of the Capital Regional District parks committee tells CFAX while we aren't running out of parks areas, there are a lot of avid adventurers out there.
"We had 3.5 million visitors to our parks last year and 3.5 million on our trail system, so we had 7 million visits--it's just a lot of people. This will be a brand new area and brand new experience and I think it's just great."
Built over the past year, at a cost of $2.3 million, the unpaved trail will provide access to the Sooke Hills Wilderness Park Reserve.
