It's now official, Mr. Floatie is no longer circling the drain, his decade-long career as number two is over. "Yes, we are at the light at the end of the tunnel, what a relief!"
Mr. Floatie ate cake at a special light-hearted ceremony in Seattle Friday and was bestowed with a "retirement" sash.
Matt Morrisson with the Pacific North West Economic region says it's about time and the issue is actually serious for him at least.
"It really matters to Seattleites not just Seattle, Washington State, this is a beginning but it ain't the end."
Mayor Helps says construction on the McLoughlin Point sewage treatment plant has officially begun, shovels hit the ground at the end of April. "At McLoughlin point, there are construction vehicles on site clearing has begun, construction is underway."
For years Washington State has criticized Greater Victoria’s inability to deal with its sewage.
The treatment plant will be running by Dec. 31, 2020.
Mr. Floatie first surfaced in Victoria on April Fool’s Day in 2004 as part of a spoof organization People Opposed to Outfall Pollution, or POOP.
