An investigation is underway at CFB Esquimalt after a woman alleged that she was drugged and sexually assaulted at the naval base early last month.
The serious allegations are being investigated by a specialized wing of the Canadian Armed Forces Military police.
CTV News and CFAX 1070 have agreed to protect her identity as she fears for her safety, and we caution our listeners details are disturbing.
The woman, who we are calling "Sarah", says she had been out drinking with friends at a downtown pub on Friday, October 5th when her memory began to fade.
After that she remembers only flashbacks of being held by shirtless strangers, staggering down darkened base hallways without her shoes, and eventually waking up. Sarah says at that time a man was penetrating her from behind.
She asked where she was, and who he was -- and maintains the man replied he didn't know her, and claimed she had arrived at his door in the middle of the night.
Over the next several hours as Sarah regained consiousness she was unable to locate her shoes, coat, or cell phone, and says no one offered her sufficient help.
The next morning she contacted military police, but only reported her missing belongings.
It was only after she confided in her mother and grandmother the Sarah reported the incident to base authorities, and saw a doctor.
Federal investigators confirm they are taking a closer look at the allegations, but are not releasing if they have a person of interest.
