The Saanich Police just got a new car for the low cost of one dollar.
The car -- 2012 Dodge Charger SRT-8 -- was seized on the mainland in August 2015 when Combined Forces Special Enforcement Unit of British Columbia was investigating drug-trade violence.
Sergeant Jereme Leslie says the car will not be used as a day-to-day squad car, but it will be part of community engagement.
“We’ll be using it for the purpose of community engagement,” Leslie said. “Bringing it out to events and really that’s falling in line with our strategic plan, and we’re really hoping that the community and police department can build and foster a good relationship with people that love cars.”
The police force gets to use the car for two years, and then will either have to return it to the Civil Forfeiture office or apply to renew the lease.
