A Saanich man arrested a year ago in connection with two high-profile arsons has now been sentenced for the crimes.
57 year old Steven Pickering was arrested June 8, 2016 for arsons committed at the Home Depot on Shelbourne and a structure fire at a townhouse complex under construction in the 4000 block of Cedar Hill Road.
Police say the fire at the Home Depot in April of last year was intentionally set inside the store, which had to be evacuated.
The fire at the townhouse complex May 22, 2016 led to the destruction of the complex and residents living in the area had to be evacuated and some were displaced.
Pickering was sentenced today to 5 years in prison for the arsons.
