The HMCS Oriole will depart from Victoria's inner harbour Friday destined for Rendezvous 2017, a Tall Ship festival celebrating the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation throughout Quebec and Atlantic Canada.
The Oriole is a commissioned sail training vessel, and is the only one of its kind in the Royal Canadian Navy.
It was first launched 96 years ago -- in 1921 -- and is the oldest and longest-serving commissioned vessel in the Royal Canadian Navy.
The Oriole is used for the training of junior officers and non-commissioned sailors as an introduction to the sea. The ship also participates in a large variety of races and public outreach events.
The ship will leave from Ship's Point in the 700-block of Government Street at 10:30 am
