Royal BC Museum is out to display works of art currently in storage, and that means creating more space.
With that, RBC today put out a request for proposals from architectural firms for the first phase of a site redevelopment, a project called "Treasures for Generations".
Chief Operations officer Angela Williams says the chosen firm will be tasked with developing a detailed plan for the redesign of Clifford Carl Hall, providing a new showcase for the museum's Emily Carr collection currently not on display:
"The museum has over 11-hundred pieces of Emily Carr. And that's not okay from, you know, a museum environment."
Williams says the museum has over 11-hundred pieces of Emily Carr not on display - and they want to remedy that. The redevelopment also includes creation of a spcace adjacent to the Emily Carr Gallery called the Pacific Worlds Gallery which will showcase First Nations cultural treasures .
The call for proposals closes January 13th, with construction slated to start next fall, and completion by December 2018.
