A bit of a reprieve for a number of local arts organizations who perform at Victoria's Royal Theatre.
New booking policies and rental rates at the theatre that were to come into effect in September have now been delayed.
The Royal McPherson Theatres Society says it will delay rental rate increases by two years and booking policies by three years, giving groups like Dance Victoria, Pacific Opera Victoria and the Victoria Symphony more time to adjust to the changes. However, the group of users, says they also want a stakeholder consultation to be held to determine the future use and purpose of the Royal Theatre. They say that has not been addressed.
The user group is also seeking assistance from the Councils of Victoria, Saanich Oak Bay, and the CRD, to endorse a collaborative process to address the sustainability of the Royal Theatre.
