A raised plaque now stands where the statue of the First Prime Minister of Canada once stood on the steps of city hall.
The plaque states how Victoria City council, the City Family, and local First Nations began "A journey of Truth and Reconciliation."
Yesterday was tense at times as a group of counter protesters voiced their displeasure to the arrival of a group from BC Proud in a battle of dueling bullhorns.
While the atmosphere was heated and voices were raised, the majority of people there respectfully discussed their different viewpoints or just watched from a distance. With Vic PD's presence not needed to intervene.
After not seeing any substantial rain in Victoria in over a month, around 1:00pm the skies opened up and in a deluge, effectively cooling any remaining tensions in the crowd.
All of the remnants of yesterday's work is now gone, with a raised plaque now placed where the statue of John A. Macdonald once stood.
A website for more information was offered on the plaque: www.victoria.ca/reconciliation.
