Marijuana dispensaries selling marijuana edibles may be shut down if they don't stop selling the product on their premises.
Last month, Island Health sent a letter to pot shops, warning them of possible action against them if they didn't stop selling marijuana edibles. In a follow up letter a few days ago, owners of pot dispensaries are being told that selling marijuana edibles on their premises is in contravention of of the BC Food Premises Regulation. It says under current regulatory framework, marijuana cannot be legally sourced for sale to the public.
Island Health has indicated it would would work with local government in preventing pot dispensaries in violation from receiving business licences.
Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps has warned that any medical marijuana businesses that have not yet applied for rezoning or a business licence could be shut down.
