If you are heading out to party on New Year's Eve be aware police will be out in force watching for impaired drivers.
Cnst. Matt Rutherford of VicPd says officers will be working to keep impaired drivers off the roads through road blocks and patrols.
Rutherford says officers are still finding drivers who have made the decision to drink, or do a drug that impairs their ability to drive. And while they sometimes take routes less travelled to avoid roadblocks, police are wise to that:
"We adapt our ways of catching people who drive impaired. And people in Victoria and the surrounding communities have been very helpful with us phoning in impaired drivers, and that really helps us get these people who are making poor decisions off our roads."
Rutherford suggests arranging a designated driver, or using a taxi or transit.
But be aware while transit won't be operating later than usual for New Year's Eve.
