The B-C Liberals have given one of their caucus members the boot for accepting the role of Speaker in the N-D-P minority government.
Darryl Plecas -- the M-L-A for Abbotsford South -- took the Speakers position Friday, much to his party's surprise. Saturday his riding association requested to revoke Plecas' membership to the party, a move approved by the Executive. "I'm disappointed because I've always seen the Liberals as a big tent. It has room for many different perspectives. I always knew that some of the views I had were not entirely consistent with a strictly Liberal view but I guess there's a feeling that's not acceptable."
Plecas' move gives the New Democrats more breathing room in the legislature while the Liberals say he has broken his trust with constituents and the party by taking the position after repeatedly promising he wouldn't do so.
