A photographer on Vancouver Island got up close and personal with two eagles, when they fell on her.
Lisa Bell is a photographer, and was visiting her friend just north of Qualicum Beach, and was there with the intentions of taking pictures of the big birds.
"It's a busy time of year for the eagles right now. So I was sitting at a bistro table and I had focused on a couple of eagles that looked like they were going to connect, and then they did. And within like four seconds, they were on my lap."
Bell says the two birds weighed between 18 and 28 pounds each, with 8 foot wingspans, and she got pretty injured when they landed on her.
"The talons got my jaw and part of my neck, and my right hand and arm, and my upper chest. A part of the body landed on the upper part of my chest, and it's pretty swollen and pretty tender. I'm moving a little slow right now."
Bell says it happened so fast that she didn't have time to be scared, adding that she's extremely fortunate that she wasn't injured more than just the cuts and bruises.
The eagles were connecting in a mating courtship ritual when they landed on Bell, and she says it's very rare that they don't release before hitting the ground, let alone before hitting a person at a bistro.
