Victoria's Park-and-Ride service could be expanding very soon to new lots in the city and also out to places on the West Shore.
Downtown Victoria Business Association’s Executive Director Kerri Milton says 45-of-53 spots on the current lot are filled and negotiations are on-going for more lots soon.
“I have a meeting set with different landowners on board who have property on Monday and my whole goal is to get spots in different parts of the city so that no matter what end you are in, there is an opportunity to use it. “
Milton says they are also looking at properties on the West Shore which would create a better commuting situation.
“A lot of the calls that are coming in are from people from the western communities looking for that opportunity,” said Milton.
The Park-and-Ride was launched at the start of last month (April) to ease the congestion of downtown parking and conventional thinking was that the interest would go up as the city's prices for downtown parkades went up.
The service right now features a lot at Douglas St and Frances Avenue where the monthly rate is $100 and includes a parking space and a monthly transit pass, which actually costs $85 on its own.
