Two Victoria police officers have been treated for non-life threatening injuries after responding to a report of a man attempting to kick down a door.
Spokesman Bowen Osoko says it happened about 5pm Sunday as the officers responded to call of someone trying to kick down a door in an apartment building:
"Officers were called to a residential building in the 700-block of Pandora Avenue, and this is just after 5:00. And the report was a man attempted to kick in the door of one persons' suite, then went to a different floor and entered another person's suite."
Spokesman Bowen Osoko says officers knocked on the door and began negotiating for the man to come out, when he charged out at at officers where he began fighting with them.
" He ran directly at officers who were on scene and was taken to the ground. And he began to fight with officers. During the course of the arrest the female occupant of the suite exits the suite and attempts to keep officers from taking the man into custody. So officers end up taking the man into custody, the woman into custody, and then searched the man and discovered a small amount of drugs including heroin and methamphetamine."
Osoko says charges of obstruction are being recommended against the woman, and uttering threats, and drug possession are being recommended against the man -- who was known to police.
Both officers are now off work.
