Looks like a Surrey family may be out of luck after losing the key to their Toyota minivan.
The Higgins were visiting Victoria last Friday and had parked and were walking along Wharf Street between The Keg and The Local.
John Higgins was holding the keys in his hand and had just put them down to tie his son's shoes. They walked away, and within minutes realized the key was missing. When they went back and scoured the area, they couldn't locate it.
The van is manufactured in Japan, and the key has a special transponder chip inside leaving the vehicle disabled without it.
"I got a call from a dealer in Bellingham who services imported Toyotas and he said the only way Toyota will cut you a knew key is if the van is physically in a Toyota dealership in Japan."
The family decided to leave the van parked in Victoria, hoping a dealer or someone could get them back in their vehicle, but so far no one has come forward.
They are offering a $500 reward for safe return of the key.
If you find the key, you are asked to call or text: 604-616-8384.
