The 6th annual foodie fundraiser is being held this weekend. Hungry Hearts, a savoury soiree that benefits Our Place Society, is being held at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Victoria Ocean Pointe Resort on Saturday, April 6th.
Communications Director for Our Place, Grant McKenzie, says since it's inception, they have raised over 600-thousand dollars.
"All of that money goes directly to keeping our doors open longer hours in the summer and winter. Because of all the volunteers we get, the chefs volunteer their time, the Delta donates the space to us, it's a very low cost event, and so all that money goes directly to serving the most vulnerable."
He says this year's attendees will be receiving a very fancy feast.
"I was just looking at the menu, and the menu's actually on our Facebook page and our website. Some of the ones are like 'cured steelhead with coconut malay lemongrass emulsion,' 'smoked sablefish and crab terrine, with sturgeon caviar, fennel slaw and roast beet creme fraiche.' I'm probably not saying all those words right, but it's some fancy stuff."
He says this fundraiser is really appealing to people coming in and opening their wallets for a good time and a good meal. McKenzie adds that they also host donors throughout the year, who come in to serve and eat with the people who use Our Place.
McKenzie says Our Place needs to raise about $3,000,000 dollars a year to keep the doors open and keep providing support and services to those in need, and this event helps take "a small bite" out of that total.
Tickets, which cost $150 each, can be bought online through the Our Place Society website, or over the phone at 250-940-5064.
