Esquimalt Fire investigators have determined where the fire that killed a woman in her 60's just over a week ago began, but have not released the exact cause as yet.
Neighbours identified Judith Burke, in her 60's, as the woman who died after becoming trapped on her 4th floor balcony on April 7th.
Fire Chief Chris Jancowski says the blaze was sparked inside the woman's suite:
" We definitely identified the area of origin, and that was in fire damaged suite that everyone was referring to in the top left hand corner. The fire was was some type of human activity that was caused between the livingroom and the kitchen area at the time. We're just waiting for the investigation of other agencies to conclude, such as the coroners service for example. Once we have all those pieces together then we'll make the officials findings of the fire."
Meantime Burke's cat, Blueberry, managed to leap from the burning apartment -- but hasn't been seen since. The cat rescue group FLEC (Finding Lost and Escaped Cats) says she is likely traumatized and hiding.
They ask anyone seeing the ragdoll Siamese cross, with medium-long brown and white fur and blue eyes, to call them immediately at 250-479-0911 or 778-977-1710. FLEC also has a Facebook site with more information.
