Alert bank employees recognized something was amiss when a man entered an Oak Bay bank last Wednesday, and tried to open an account using fake ID's and pay stubs.
Chief Constable Andy Brinton says officers were called, and arrested the man, who is not a B.C.. resident.
"This fellow is from outside of British Columbia. But we believe he was in the province committing these frauds at different areas."
Brinton says the man may be responsible for running the same scam at other Victoria area banks:
"We're currently working with the other police agencies around the CRD and even reaching out to the rest of the province just to see if there are other activities potentially committed by this individual. "
Brinton says the matter is now before the courts with the man facing charges in connection with the Oak Bay incident. But investigators hope to be able to present more evidence to crown Counsel in coming weeks to add further charges.
