Oak Bay officials are considering a novel approach to deal with the growing deer population in the region.
It involves giving female deer a birth control vaccine.
Mayor Nils Jensen said it's an approach that wasn't available to the community three years ago, when it culled 11 deer.
That strategy raised the ire of animal rights groups, while local residents are fed up with deer devouring their gardens and flowers.
If the province greenlights the plan, the birth control serum would be administered this summer by the non-profit Urban Wildlife Stewardship Society.
Phase one of the community's deer management strategy saw 20 does tagged with radio collars to track their movement and behaviours.
