More construction is on the way for Douglas Street as B.C. Transit announces the next phase of their priority bus lane project.
Work begins next week on the southbound Douglas Street lanes from Hillside Avenue to Tolmie Avenue. Once complete, the whole system will run northbound and southbound from Fisgard Avenue to Tolmie Avenue. Some of that work is already complete.
The purpose of the project is to allow buses to move down Douglas faster by skirting traffic. So, Douglas is being reconfigured to give buses their own lanes
Once compete this fall, the plan is for these lanes to become bus only 24-hours a day -- whereas they're currently only during rush hours.
The work that starts next week includes road paving, sidewalk and boulevard improvements, new line paving, new signals and lighting, tree planting and landscaping.
