In an attempt to keep seagulls off the roof of a warehouse at Ogden Point an artificial tree has been installed to attract bald eagles.
Ogden Point General Manager John Briant tells CTV News the gulls have been a problem for as long as he's worked there.
"We get a lot of feathers, there is bird guano is eating away at the roof itself. We get dead chicks and gulls up there that is a bit of a health hazard and quite honestly, it smells."
That's where some creativity and innovation came in. Briant says they contacted a local bird expert in to help find a solution.
"So we worked with Jacques Sirois from Friends of Victoria Harbour Migratory Bird Sanctuary to try and find a solution to our issues and he suggested we try putting an eagle habitat on our warehouse roof over there."
Briant says they tried just about everything to keeps the gulls off the roof, and are hoping this latest strategy works.
The eagle tree is for nesting mostly, and is constructed from steel and real branches at the top designed to look like an eagle's nest.
