The City of Victoria confirms a hypodermic needle found in a city parkade by a security guard was the subject of a Facebook post Sunday.
By this Monday morning, the post had over 3,000 hits with most people saying they were appalled.
The city says the needle, taped to the underside of a railing in the Yates Street parkade was discovered by the security guard several weeks ago, and as a result, the city has elevated its hourly security sweeps that it conducts at all of its five parkades.
In a press release this Monday afternoon, the city says the discovery of a needle taped to a handrail is highly uncommon, and something the city takes very seriously.
Some who had seen the photo on social media said they were surprised the city didn't warn parkade users with a public notice or a sign.
The city says it is working closely with the Victoria Police Department to investigate how the needle was placed there.
