Federal NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is touring parts of Vancouver Island this week.
The 38 year old leader spoke at the Campbell River Chamber of Commerce Monday morning, then heads to Courtenay for something he calls a 'Jagmeet & greet' Monday evening.
On Tuesday, Singh travels to Port Alberni to meet with high school students, then returns to the east side of Vancouver Island to meet residents in Parksville and Nanaimo.
Jagmeet tells CFAX1070, in the battle between the two NDP Premiers of BC and Alberta, he backs BC Premier John Horgan's stance on the Kinder Morgan Pipeline Project.
"I would not approve a project using a process that doesn't take into consideration all the environmental concerns people have; legitimate concerns. Like the difficulty of cleaning up a diluted bitumen oil spill. So I put forth a 3-part criteria: We have to make decisions in line with our goals when it comes to climate change and protecting the environment, any energy project has to create local opportunities for Canadians, and the decision needs to consider and respect First Nations rights."
Singh says his focus is on inequality and environmental concerns on the coast.
"I will be checking out the coast and the efforts to clean up ocean plastics, and meet with students."
The NDP Leader will not visit Victoria during this cross-Canada tour.
