RCMP believe remains found are those of Richard Blair Young, missing since February 14
RCMP now say foul play is suspected after they found the remains of a 72 year old man near the Malahat highway last week.
Shawnigan Lake RCMP have confirmed the remains are those of Richard Blair Young, who was reported missing to police on February 14.
Young's remains were found near the Arbutus rest stop on the highway’s summit on Friday March 3. His death is now being investigated as a homicide by Shawnigan Lake RCMP and the Vancouver Island Integrated Major Crime Unit.
Police say the investigation is in the early stages and the public is not at risk.
