Migrant Caregivers across Canada are taking over public spaces with prominent visual displays and flash mobs on Mother's Day (May 13th) to call for permanent residency status on arrival and family unity.
In Downtown Vancouver, migrant caregivers and their advocates will hold a flash mob to the song "She Works Hard for the Money" by Donna Summer on Robson Street in front of the Vancouver Art Gallery steps.
Local organizers include the Migrant Workers Centre, the Committee for Domestic Workers and Caregivers Rights, Migrante BC, the Filipino Workers Network and the Filipino Canadian Advocacy Network.
The current Caregiver program is set to expire in November 2019, and is under federal government review. Caregivers currently entering Canada have no path to permanent residency status.
Thousands of migrant Caregivers take care of Canadian families while they are separated from their own families.
