A former Canadian Olympic rower and investment dealer has turned himself in to police after being missing for nearly a year and a half.
Police in Victoria, B-C say he walked into a police station yesterday. Vic PD Constable, Matt Rutherford tells CFAX video footage of Backer boarding a Blackball Ferry November third of 2015 is the last time he had been seen. "At this point, there are a lot of unanswered questions as to where he's been in the last year and a half. That's something our investigators will look at, where his travels took him and how long he's been back in the country and Victoria."
Police say Harold Backer vanished in 2015 soon after investigators started looking into him and the company My Financial Backer Corporation.
He's now charged with two counts of fraud, but police aren't elaborating on the specifics of the allegations.
Backer's case is due in court again next week.
