Students across Greater Victoria will be out of school and on streets downtown today, joining thousands of other students across Canada in demanding climate action.
Emma-Jane Burian,16, one of two teens behind the local chapter of the organization "Our Earth, Our Future", says the midday march and rally is the second in less than two months.
Youth will converge at Victoria City Hall at 11am, and plan to march along government street to the BC Legislature -- for a two-hour demonstration.
Burian says she and 13-year-old Rebecca Wolf-Gage meet monthly with Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps to discuss their green goals, including an emissions target, environmental rights, conservation and biodiversity.
"We really make sure we're educated about the signs of climate change," said Burian. "Because we're so young people (adults) don't expect that. It helps bring more value to the case we're making."
Burian cautions not to descredit the youth, she says they work diligently at educating themselves about the threats to our climate -- because it is her generation who will carry the burden of government inaction.
