A memorial has been unveiled to honour the province's search and rescue volunteers.
The permanent monument and memorial to the fallen heroes sits adjacent to the newly-unveiled BC Emergency Services Garden of Honour on the grounds of the BC Legislature, which also honours fallen law enforcement officers, firefighters and paramedics.
Minister of State for Emergency Preparedness, Naomi Yamamoto says the people of BC owe a great deal to the search and rescue teams of this province.
"Many have pledged their careers to this service and most are volunteers and they all spring to action at a moment's notice in aid of perfect strangers."
The memorial is a joint project of the BC Search and Rescue Association, Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue, and PEP Air, The Provincial Emergency Program Air, a BC-wide volunteer aviation association dedicated to the promotion of Aviation Safety.
