A groundbreaking ceremony for the long awaited $85-million dollar McKenzie Interchange project was attended by local dignitaries and BC Transportation Minister Todd Stone Thursday.
The first task is to expand and move the Galloping Goose Trail in the area of the new interchange. Also, the CRD water line that feeds Greater Victoria from the Sooke Lake reservoir will have to be moved as it runs under the project.
Saanich Mayor Richard Atwell was among those present as a bulldozer started work. Atwell says the project - 30 years in the making - is slated to take two years to complete. He says December 2018 is still the estimated completion date. Atwell was speaking with Adam Sterling on CFAX 1070 just before the ceremony.
