A man convicted of drunk driving in the crash that killed 32 year old West Shore RCMP officer Cnst. Sarah Beckett in April 2016 is being allowed limited day parole to get treatment for alcohol abuse.
Kenneth Fenton made his first appearance in front of the parole board since pleading guilty in May 2017.
Though board members had reservations about Fenton's honesty and the length of time it's taken for him to admit he's an alcoholic -- they agreed he should be allowed to takepart in a 70-day treatment program in the Fraser Valley. Decisions on next steps will be decided whern he returns to Abbotsford's Matsqui Institution, where he has been held.
But Beckett's husband, Brad Aschenbrenner, was angry at the news -- telling CTV news he would have attended the hearing had he known, but only leraned of it through a reporter last night.
Aschenbrenner calls failure to inform him disgusting, and says it's left him "physically and emotionally set back".
Fenton's speeding vehicle ran a red light and smashed into the side of Beckett's marked police cruiser in an intersection killing her instantly. The young mother of 2 had just returned from maternity leave.
