A man who was hit head-on Monday on the Malahat while driving a friend's restored '59 Corvette says he feels lucky to be alive. Shane King was driving northbound through Goldstream Park when he noticed a southbound vehicle drift out of its lane towards him. It turns out the elderly driver was experiencing a stroke.
King took evasive action, but still suffered black eyes, a fractured orbital bone in his face, and is bruised from head to toe. Kings says had there been dividers, he would have escaped riers in this stretch of road.
He is now advocating for lane dividers on that stretch of road, saying he has no douibt he would have escaped injury had there been a barrier.
The other driver was hospitalized, but has since been released. The corvette is a write off.
