A man in Courtenay is lucky to be alive after being involved in a high speed, single vehicle crash.
Courtenay Fire Chief Don Bardonnex, says the crash ended up sending the convertible sports car into a ditch along Vanier Drive.
"The occupant was ejected up towards the fence. A single male, conscious and alert, and looks to be in pretty good condition I have to say."
Bardonnex says a lifeguard from the nearby Comox Valley Rec Centre and another man were giving the man first aid when emergency crews arrived on the scene.
He says despite it being a 50 km per hour zone, they have a lot of crashes along that stretch of road.
"Could be just because there's nobody here, I'm not sure what the reason is they think this is the place to go."
Bardonnex says the driver was taken to the hospital, and is lucky to have suffered relatively minor injuries.
