The man convicted in the death of a West Shore RCMP officer while he was impaired, is headed to court again in connection to a different collision involving more impaired charges.
A preliminary hearing has been set for June next year for 29 year old Kenneth Jacob Fenton, who is already serving a 4 year sentence for the April 2016 crash that killed Cnst. Sarah Beckett.
It was in May 2016 that RCMP found Fenton's truck rolled on Goldstream Heights Drive, with 2 people inside, shortly after the truck failed to stop for a roadside check.
Fenton faces charges including impaired driving causing bodily harm and flight causing bodily harm. A woman who says she was a passenger in the truck has also launched a civil suit.
Fenton has elected to be tried in front of a Supreme Court judge without a jury, and has not yet entered a plea in that case.
During the trial for Cnst. Beckett's death the court heard his blood-alcohol level was more than 3 times the legal limit , and Fenton's truck was estimated to be travelling at close to 90 in a 50 zone when he struck the police cruiser. It's believed to be the first case of drinking and driving causing a police officer’s death in B.C. He could be eligible for full parole in November 2018.
