With the BC Election results still in limbo because of recounts, a new poll shows how voters are feeling about the results that saw the Liberals heading a minority government, the NDP just 2 seats behind, and the Greens with 3 seats and holding the balance of power.
Mainstreet/Postmedia surveyed 1,650 people between May 11-13th, and respondents were screened to confirm voting eligibility.
The survey found 49% are very, or somewhat satisfied with the election results as they stand now. 63% of Liberal voters say they are satisfied, compared to 57% of NDP Voters who are dissatisfied, and Green Voters the most satisfied with 65% happy with the outcome.
As to how the Green Party should align themselves, 58% say they would prefer the Greens support government on a vote by vote basis, rather than a coalition. But an almost equal number, 57%, say they would approve of an NDP-Green Party Coalition government. Just 27% would approve of a coalition between the Greens and the Liberals. And 40% of Liberal voters say they would disapprove of a Green-Liberal coalition.
Asked who they would prefer form the next government, 51% said the NDP - and that includes 27% of Liberal voters. Among NDP voters the number was 89%, but most interestingly 47% of Green Voters say the NDP should form the next government over the Liberals ... 36% of Green voters weren't sure.
Finally - British Columbians were asked how long they thought a minority government might last, which most saying between 1 and 2 years. Of course - all of this may be moot if a recount in Courtney-Comox takes the seat away from the NDP and hands it to the Liberals, giving them back a majority.
The margin of error is plus or minus 4.8 percentage points, 19 times out of 20 on Vancouver Island, and sightly less for the rest of B.C. (+/- 4.64 percentage points).
