It looks like the long-delayed Colwood Corners development is finally going to get moving.
Onni Group of Vancouver confirms it has received the initial building permit for the site on Sooke Road at Goldstream Avenue and work will get underway this week.
It’s been more than 10 years since League Assets Corporation announced it had acquired the12.5 acre Colwood property. They promised a $1.2-billion project featuring at least 16 buildings to be built over 2 decades.
But in 2013 the investment syndicate ran out of money and Onni took control of the assets in the fall of 2014.
The initial building permit covers overall site, civil, and landscape preparation, in advance of construction of 4 buildings. Onni anticipates additional Building Permits to be issued later this summer.
Phase 1 involves construction of 3 mid-rise residential buildings and an additional 152,000 sq.ft. of commercial space to house 4 anchor tenants, including a major grocery store.
