Now that a new cost-sharing plan is in place leading to Canada's start-up of the upcoming legalized recreational pot market, there are still concerns for the safety of Canadians crossing into the United States.
Alistair MacGregor, MP for Cowichan-Malahat-Langford and the NDP deputy justice critic says with the new American administration in place, there have already been issues with racialized Canadians stopped at the border due to Trump's draconian policies
"Admitting to using cannabis can be grounds for refusal of entry into the United States and that can have a real impact on our cross-border flow. At the same time though, we have our safety minister encouraging Canadians to always tell the truth when they're crossing the border even tough telling the truth may have serious consequences."
MacGregor says he is pleased the federal government has finally realized the burden the provinces are taking on with legalization of marijuana by cutting them a 75 per cent share.
