Local hotel operators are sounding their own alarm in the wake of the tsunami warning Tuesday.
Many say they only learned of the warning from staff members who just happened to be on-line at the time.
Reid James is chair of the Hotel Association of Greater Victoria & General Manager of the Hotel Grand Pacific. He says hoteliers have guests to protect, and they're not getting emergency information in a timely fashion.
'We don't want them to come down to the lobby and walk outside to find four feet of water running down the street. You need to communicate."
Reid James says he personally polled over 50 local hotels in the wake of the warning, he says he only found four that were registered online for the tsunami alert. He says he would like to see Victoria and other municipalities along with the CRD, create an annual emergency preparedness package for hotels across the region.
