The Liberal candidate who will take on NDP Leader John Horgan in the Juan de Fuca electoral district says she's not worried about running in a New Democrat stronghold.
Cathy Noel is known in the community as the race director for the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon and the Victoria Goddess Run. Last week she was revealed as the Juan de Fuca Liberal candidate.
Noel was asked by C-FAX 1070's Al Ferraby about the challenge of running in an area held by the NDP since 2005, "it's all strategy and it's all planning Al. Being able to say who are the supports, who are not, and who is on the fence. Being able to make sure people know that they have a choice and just because they have voted one way it doesn't mean they're going to vote the same way."
Noel says she'll focus in issues such as jobs, accessible healthcare, affordable housing, transportation and education, "that's what I'm going to be focusing on - what the riding needs."
Horgan won Juan de Fuca for the NDP in 2009, and 2013. But his first election was under the riding's previous name - Malahat-Juan de Fuca - in 2005. Prior to that, the riding was briefly held by the Liberals from 2001 to 2005 under Brian Kerr. Other than that 4-year period the area has mostly seen NDP representation for the past few decades.
The upcoming BC election is May 9th.
