Langford's mayor says he likes a developer's enthusiasm about getting passenger rail service running between Langford and Vic West, but he wants to see a business plan before promising any municipal funding.
Developer of Bayview Place Ken Mariash said on CFAX this week that he'll pay for consultants and a business plan to get the ball rolling on restoring passenger rail service on E&N Rail corridor.
Mayor Stew Young says Mariash is a proven developer with deep pockets.
"If he's willing to put up his money and to start to fund this thing, that's a good partner to have -- a better partner to have than just the government throwing a whole bunch of money at this. So I think that there's something here. But after five years of the train not running people start to question it. That's what I'm hearing, 'Show us the business case.'"
Young says for passenger rail service to work it would need to be heavily subsidized, and the provincial government needs to play a prominent role.
