Two Victoria charities are involved in the ‘Coldest Night of the Year' Walk for Homelessness Saturday afternoon.
Our Place Society on Pandora Street and Mustard Seed on Queens Avenue are hosting simultaneous events.
More than 170 walkers have already raised more than $30,000 for Our Place; the goal is $50,000.
Registration begins at 4pm Saturday afternoon at both charities. The walks are 2, 5 and 10 km.
Victoria Mayor Lisa Helps will launch the event at Our Place Society at 5pm.
Warm meals will served to participants following the walk.
Our Place provides over 1800 meals daily, as well as 135 housing units and 60 overnight shelter mats to people in need.
Mustard Seed helps an estimated 5000 people in need daily, since 1975.
In total, eight communities on Vancouver Island are involved in the walk Saturday, including Nanaimo, Campbell River, and Port Alberni.
Nationally, The ‘Coldest Night of the Year’ Walk for Homelessness has raised more than $4.5 million across 121 communities.
