An update on the Johnson Street bridge replacement project shows it’s on schedule to still be completed by March 2018.
Unlike the past report, more money for the project was not asked for.
The quarterly report to city officials explains that the focus of the project is now on the steel fabrication in China.
Mayor Lisa Helps, speaking on C-FAX1070, says project manager Jonathan Huggett has directed PCL and ZTSS to do more fabrication in China than in Victoria.
"The bridge was supposed to arrive in December but it’s now going to arrive next spring with it intact and more proven and more kind of de-risked than if it had come in December."
The report from Huggett also stated that work in Victoria was moving along on time as well with the pedestrian bridge being a big milestone.
The bridge is expected to be open to traffic by late 2017 and budget remains at $105.06 million.
