The region's chief medical health officer says it's unclear when three safe consumption sites proposed for Victoria will be considered by the federal government.
After two public information sessions earlier this week, Dr. Richard Stanwick with Island Health says they will continue gathering feedback and information until December 2.
An application will then be drafted for federal consideration.
"The big challenge is how long it will take the federal government to approve these applications. Montreal has been waiting six months. This is not deterring us from moving forward as quickly as we can and as efficiently as we can in meeting the conditions of the application, but I really can not even predict when the federal government will, in fact, approve another supervised consumption site -- not just here, but anywhere in Canada."
Dr. Stanwick made the comments during a presentation to city council this morning.
