An inquest into the accidental overdose death of an Oak Bay teen has been scheduled for June 17.
16 year old Elliot Cleveland Eurchuk died on April 20 last year, his parents found him unresponsive on his bed at his family's home.
Brock Eurchuk and Rachel Staples say their son's problems began with opioid prescriptions for post-surgery pain.
Since their son's untimely death, they have been advocating to allow parents greater access to their children's medical records, saying that could help other parents avoid a such a tragedy.
Inquests are called to review circumstances of Elliot's death. Presiding Coroner Michael Egilson and a jury will hear evidence from witnesses under oath to determine the facts surrounding the death.
A coroner's jury does not come to conclusions on legal responsibility -- but can make recommendations aimed at preventing deaths under similar circumstances.
