“It turns the question into a vote on a budget for the project rather a vote on a citizen’s assembly and whether it’s the right first step.“
The CEO of the Greater Victoria Chamber of Commerce is unsure the wording of the amalgamation question is ideal.
Catherine Holt said including a price in the question could alter voter’s perception.
“It starts ask out asking whether the voter wants to spend a specific amount of money on that project, and it’s not that spending money isn’t important, of course it’s very important,” Hold said. “It turns the question into a vote on a budget for the project rather a vote on a citizen’s assembly and whether it’s the right first step.“
Something Holt says is a good point of the question is that it puts the focus on a citizen’s assembly, indicating the process will be taken one step at a time.
Victoria and Saanich held a joint council meeting on June 26 to discuss and decide on an amalgamation question to put on the ballot October 20.
