2018's civic elections in the Greater Victoria produced a lot of change. But, for some communities, things will look familiar the morning after voting day.
In Langford, Mayor Stew Young will get another 4-years after a landslide win over challenger Robert Fraser. Young has been mayor for 26-years already and secured his next term with over 80% of the vote.
In Esquimalt, mayor Barb Desjardins easily held of a challenge from John Roe. Desjardins thinks voters are happy with the direction of her community. "There's a real sense of vibrancy in our community and I look forward to carrying that through the next term and making it even greater." Desjardins took over 70% of the vote.
Sooke Mayor Maja Tait cruised to another term. She pulled in 56% of the vote and her closest competitor, Kevin Pearson, drew 40%.
And in several communities mayors were acclaimed without a contest. Those were David Screech in View Royal, John Ranns in Metchosin, Ken Williams in Highlands, and Ryan Windsor in Central Saanich. However, except for Highlands, some of the councils saw significant change. Find full results here.
North Saanich saw the entire council acclaimed, but outgoing mayor Alice Finall was the only mayor in the CRD not to run again. Former councilor Geoff Orr defeated another previous councilor, Dorothy Hartshorne to become the next mayor or North Saanich. Orr received 2,592 votes compared to Hartshorne’s 1,415
